TMCO Announces 2022-2023 Season, Mindful Transformations

TMCO announces its 2022-2023 season, Mindful Transformations, which is dedicated to mental health and mindfulness. The first concert will focus on The Power of the Human Spirit. The second concert will focus on The Power of Life and the human ability to embrace the gifts and struggles that life holds for us. The last concert will focus on The Power of This Moment, the human ability to cultivate mindfulness and to be fully present and aware of where we are and what we're doing, without being overly reactive or influenced by what's going on around us. Hope to see you at our next concert!

In the first concert, we will focus on "The Power of the Human Spirit" to experience emotions and survive even the toughest moments in life. Dvorak's Carnival is part of a trilogy of overtures - this one is the second - “Life" symbolizing joy. When you hear a joyful melody, it can transport you to a happier place and elevate your mood. Schumann suffered from mental illness, yet his 3rd symphony radiates joy. When one focuses on joy, their spirits benefit from the positive thought, and those who wish can tap into this emotion, even while they are deeply depressed.

Our second concert will focus on "The Power of Life" and the human ability to embrace the gifts and struggles that life holds for us. Finnish composer Rautavaara wrote "In the Beginning" to create a picture of the wonder of life. The piece opens with micro elements merging together into matter followed by intense struggle ending with a big bang-creation of life. Life is pretty special and complex. When we think of how it all started and the chance that human life would evolve, we are in awe of the power of life. Sibelius' second symphony was not only inspired by the optimism that Finland had to hold while fighting for its independence, but it was also inspired by a larger picture he had in mind: sharing the struggle, crisis, and the turning-point in the life of an individual.

The last concert will focus on "The Power of This Moment”, the human ability to cultivate mindfulness, to be fully present and aware of where we are and what we're doing, without being overly reactive or influenced by what's going on around us. We live in a world of distorted perceptions of what we should be, have, and feel. We often miss the beauty of this moment and only realize what we missed when it’s too late. Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff both wrote some of the most beautiful melodies in the music repertoire, but it takes an open mind to truly appreciate these melodies as they emerge. We will invite our audience to go on an inner journey while listening to these pieces and embrace the emotions and beauty they experience as the music unfolds.
