Pilgrim Academy

Beginning in the Spring of 2021, TMCO expanded its education initiatives to another charter 1 school in the Gulfton/Sharpstown area. Our team works with our students on a biweekly basis and provide quality instruction to supplement their music studies. Aside from music enrichment, the students are taught important values such as team working, charity, and discipline through their work. TMCO has also created opportunities for advanced studies in chamber music where we are able to showcase our students at community performances.

KIPP SHARP

In an effort to increase appreciation for classical music in young audiences, Texas Medical Center Orchestra has worked hard to develop an increasingly close relationship with the charter school, KIPP SHARP. During the past seasons, by coordinating efforts with KIPP SHARP teachers and administrators, TMCO has integrated its musical programming into the school’s curriculum. Works that the orchestra performs are taught and discussed in history, art and music classes. The students are invited to display artwork and essays at TMCO concerts, and they, together with their families, are encouraged to at attend. Perhaps, most importantly, TMCO has actually included KIPP choirs and orchestras in concert performances. For instance, KIPP SHARP 3rd and 4th graders have sung onstage at TMCO concerts at Wortham Theater, the Hobby Center and came to New York City to participate in TMCO’s Carnegie Hall debut on May 24, 2013.

In October 2017, TMCO contracted Dan Kamin to perform free clinics and programs for KIPP SHARP, CAMP HOPE, patients at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, the Shlenker School and Cy-Falls High School.
